Should We Allow Children (Ages 1-8) to Access the Internet or Not?
Last October 17, 2018 (Wednesday), Sir Ces divided our section, HUMSS 11A, into two groups. The Pros & the Cons. I belonged on the Pro side where we agree to allow children (ages 1-8) to access the internet or not.
It was really hard for me to defend our side (Pro) because growing up my parents didn’t taught me & my siblings to rely on the internet as we grow up. Growing up I used to spend my day, playing with my cousins & siblings.
The Cons group defended their side by saying that the internet is not reliable in terms of educational purposes and that books are the most legit source for it. They also said that allowing children to access the internet at a young age can take away mostly of their childhood. They’ve also mentioned that accessing the internet at that age can affect their mental health.
I was not given a chance to speak but I told my groupmates my opinions and I think it was helpful because they used some for them to defend our side. I told them things like, there’s this app called Youtube Kids, where there are YT vids that are only applicable for kids so that they would not watch videos that are not suitable for their age. I also told them that sites adopt to what you usually search. Like for example, if you always search for Vlogs, then the things that would usually appear on the sites you use are Vlogs. Parents have to do with this matter, they should guide their kids often when using the internet.
